      Theta Chi was founded on April 10, 1856 By Fredrick Norton Freeman andArthur Chase at Norwich University in Norwich Vermont. Theta Chi is also one ofthree social fraternities to be founded at a military institute. In 1881, because ofthe effects of the Civil War and Norwich University membership decreasing to only15 students, Theta Chi fraternity was reduced to only one member (James MichaelHolland). From that one man Theta Chi has grown to over 220 chapters and over160,000 members. The first Theta Chi member to pass away, did so by fighting forhis country in the Civil War, his roster number was 4.
